As generative AI revolutionizes software development, organizations face the challenge of integrating these powerful tools without compromising security. This presentation explores the critical importance of establishing a secure and safe foundation before incorporating AI into your software build process. Using some analogies from fluid dynamics, we compare today’s predictable and well-understood security landscape—akin to laminar flow—with the chaotic and unpredictable environment—turbulent flow—that the rise of generative AI introduces.
Generative AI increases the volume and complexity of code, creating more opportunities for errors, bugs, and security vulnerabilities. Traditional security measures may no longer suffice in this new landscape, where attackers can exploit vulnerabilities faster than defenders can respond.
What is happening today with Gen AI really echoes what happened when OSS took off. Everyone is racing to adopt and use this new technology to scale their work and become more effective and efficient - - but they are overlooking the security of this new technology. It is untested in many ways and hasn’t gone through the rigorous security review it should before countless organizations are deploying these new AI APIs into their production environments. We can learn our lesson this time around and adopt AI with a security first mindset.
By understanding where we came from and where we are looking to go, organizations can harness the power of AI while ensuring their systems remain secure and resilient.
Join Dan Lorenc, Co Founder and CEO of Chainguard to learn how to navigate the turbulent waters of generative AI and build a secure foundation that safeguards your development process and protects against emerging threats.
